Ladies, let me ask you this—how many properties have you helped your clients buy or sell in the past year?
Now, how many of those properties did you buy for yourself?
If the answer is zero, it’s time to change that. Shift your mindset from advising your clients—spending late nights doing everything you can to help them—to becoming an investor yourself. Because if you’re in the business, why not build wealth for you and your family too?
Realtor to Investor
We see this all the time. Women realtors are phenomenal at guiding their clients through buying and selling. They are with them every step of the way—going above and beyond, bending over backward to make sure everything goes smoothly. But then, when it comes to investing for themselves, they hesitate. Why do you think that is? It’s fear, right? Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, or even the belief that they don’t have the time to invest in themselves.
But here’s the truth: If you know how to spot a good deal for your clients, you already have the skills to spot one for yourself. You have what it takes to be an investor. You’ve already done the hardest part—learning the market, gaining negotiation skills, and managing transactions. The next step is believing that you are worth investing in, just like your clients.
For me (Amanda), the fear that held me back was that I didn’t have the knowledge that realtors have. I didn’t fully understand the market. My husband and I had always dreamed of owning investment properties, of doing more with our money than just paying taxes, but I didn’t believe I had the skills or confidence to purchase real estate successfully—even though I had dreamed of passive income and financial freedom for years.
Four years ago, my husband and I partnered with Ali and her husband. David was a realtor—he had that knowledge. And Ali grew up in a family of investors, so she had the expertise I felt I lacked. They both had the strengths I was least confident in.
For me, partnering with them gave me the ability to learn—and the confidence to take that leap and embrace the risk. It also helped that we were sharing the investment, which made it feel more manageable. And honestly, it unlocked an incredible opportunity.
- First, I got to work with Ali, which I loved.
- Second, I now have the knowledge—I understand the market, I’ve gained the skills, and I’ve built confidence.
- And third, we now have a portfolio of properties because we took that first step together.
4 Reasons You Hesitate to Move from Agent to Investor
It’s just like starting your career as a realtor.
At first, you’re terrified to handle your first transaction, scared to work with your first client. But once you do it once, you gain confidence. And now, look at you! Look at us! We’re out here helping other women grow their investment portfolios and build wealth.
Let’s talk about some of the biggest fears holding people back from making their first real estate investment.
1. Fear of failure
That’s a big one.
2. Time
This was a huge one for me (Ali). As a realtor, you already feel stretched thin with all the hats you wear. If you’re a mom, a partner, a friend, a daughter—you have so many responsibilities. Plus, you need to focus on getting commissions because that’s what pays the bills. So, making time for investing can feel overwhelming.
3. Money
A lot of women believe they need a ton of cash to start investing. But there are creative financing options—like partnerships, leveraging your commissions, or setting aside a little each month—that can help you gain momentum. Setting a goal like, “Once I hit a certain amount in commissions, I’ll use part of it to buy a property,” can be so motivating! And remember—investing in real estate will eventually eliminate that stretched-thin feeling you have right now.
4. Knowledge
We already touched on this, but as a realtor, you already have a huge advantage. You understand the market, demographics, and real estate fundamentals better than most people. This gives you an advantage as an investor.
Now, it’s just about shifting your mindset—from looking for deals only for your clients to looking for deals for yourself, too. You can be both a realtor and an investor.
Here’s what we want you to do right now:
Write down one financial goal for yourself. Maybe it’s something like, After I sell 10 homes, I’ll use my 11th commission to buy an investment property.
Doesn’t that sound like an amazing reward?
Once you’ve written it down, share it!
And if this resonated with you, don’t stop here.
